ATLANTIC
UNITED METHODIST CHURCH GUIDELINES FOR THE SERVICE OF CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE (FOR BEACH AND OUTSIDE
LOCATION WEDDINDGS, PLEASE READ NUMBER 18 AT BOTTOM OF PAGE.) - The Service of Christian marriage, in addition to being a legal act authorized by the State, is a Christian Worship
Service in which those to be married present themselves at the altar of the Church or some other suitable place to ask the
blessings of God.
- The arrangements for performing the ceremony should be scheduled at least
four months in advance. We do not schedule weddings on Festival days or during Holy Week, and your date will be confirmed
only after an initial consultation with the Pastor.
- One or two pre-marriage consultations with
the Pastor will give us the opportunity to explore your goals and expectations for the wedding ceremony and for married life.
- While it is not required that you be a member of the church in order to be married at Atlantic Church, we encourage
couples to attend worship in order to continue their growth together in Christ. We ask couples to prayerfully consider
expanding their spiritual walk by becoming members of the Atlantic United Methodist Church family. What better time
to open your life to God's love and grace than at this important time of your life together?
- The
wedding will be performed by Pastor agreed on after consultation. Visiting clergy may participate only by invitation
by the Pastor.
- Altar/Chancel Regulations
- The Bible must remain
on the Altar and open.
- Chancel furniture remains in its usual place.
- Flowers/decorations
must be approved by the Pastor.
- No tape or wire is permitted to attach decorations. Ribbons
must be used for this purpose.
- Brass candelabras with globes may be used.
- The marriage license for Worcester County must be obtained from the County Court house (County Clerk - Snow hill).
It is valid for six months, but has a 48 hour waiting period, and the wedding must be performed in the county that issued
the license. You may obtain information regarding weddings in Ocean City and surrounding area at the following website.

on time. Please bring your marriage license, wedding candle(s), programs, guest book, fees and honorarium. These
items should be given to the Pastor before the rehearsal begins.
